Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni recently led his side to a record-equaling fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title after they defeated the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans in the summit clash of the tournament. However, it was well established that Dhoni was competing in the competition and struggling with a knee injury simultaneously.

The 41-year-old did not miss a single match of the IPL 2023, and he was often seen with a cast around his knee after matches as well. Recently, he underwent surgery for the knee in Mumbai and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Furthermore, Dhoni also promised the fans that he will be competing in at least one more season of the IPL, given that his body holds up.

Talking about a potential return to the IPL, Chennai Super Kings’ CEO Kasi Viswanathan came forward to provide an update on MS Dhoni’s injury situation. He stated that he talked to Dhoni, who informed him that he would be resting for three weeks before going into rehab.

"Actually, he told us immediately after the final is over, he'll fly to Mumbai, have surgery, and go back to Ranchi for rehab. In Mumbai, after Ruturaj's wedding [on June 4], I visited him. It was a courtesy call. He's quite comfortable. He said he'll rest for three weeks and then start his rehab. And like he said, he's not going to play until January-February. We don't need to remind him about all that," Kasi Viswanathan told ESPNcricinfo.

He knows what to do: Viswanathan

Furthermore, Viswanathan also reflected on the fact that no one is asking Dhoni too many questions, as the 41-year-old knows what he has to do to get back in the game.

"He knows what to do, how to go about it, so we aren't going to ask him 'what are you going to do, how' etc. He will inform us on his own. Whatever he's doing, he'll call first and inform only Mr N Srinivasan, not anyone else. Factually, he'll be straightforward with him. From him, we'll get the information that this is what he's doing. It's been this way since 2008. That's how it will continue," Kasi Viswanathan said.
