After facing a lot of flak for his underachievement in the last edition of the Indian Premier League, youngster Riyan Parag returned back to his best after smashing back-to-back centuries for Assam in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. He is playing a fearless brand of cricket, which has worked wonders for him in red-ball cricket and following which, the 22-year-old has decided to improve his white-ball game in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
Reflecting upon that, Parag mentioned that he is expressing himself more these days and is practising hard on the nets. The all-rounder added that he worked with his dad Parag Das and Zubin Bharucha to fine-tune his game and following which, he expects to have a spectacular IPL in 2024.
“I am expressing myself more on the field now. My mindset is to hit the first ball, for a six if it is in my range and I don’t mind getting out for playing that shot. During the off-season I fine-tuned my game with my dad Parag Das and Zubin Bharucha. I always had the shots but I realised that I need to practice a lot. Cricket is all about muscle memory. So I try to be more repetitive in practice and try to implement that in game situation,” Parag was quoted as saying by Sporstar.
“The IPL is going to be huge for me. I am just thinking of carrying my domestic form into the IPL. I know it is a different tournament, the bowlers are more skilful but my skill doesn’t go away. I might be batting up the order this time in the IPL. I have always batted at number four for Assam and if you do something consistently you are tuned in for that,” the Rajasthan Royals player added.
Notably, ahead of IPL 2023, Parag expected the same and also predicted hitting four sixes in an over during the course of the tournament. However, that didn’t happen and following this, the cricketer was subjected to a lot of trolling. He however is determined to get better this time around and help Rajasthan win their second IPL trophy.
