Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants has appointed explosive West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran as vice-captain for the 2024 season, replacing all-rounder Krunal Pandya. The announcement comes ahead of the IPL 2024 tournament starting on March 22. LSG will be playing their first game of IPL 2024 against Rajasthan Royals on March 24 in Jaipur.

Pooran was acquired by LSG for INR 16 crore in the 2023 auction, becoming the most expensive purchase for a wicketkeeper in IPL history. The hard-hitting Caribbean star had an impressive IPL 2023 season, scoring 358 runs at a strike rate of nearly 173. His attacking style will provide a vital boost to Lucknow's batting lineup.

Pooran takes over the deputy role from Krunal, who led the side previously alongside skipper KL Rahul. Rahul was seen handing over the vice-captain jersey with Pooran's number 29 on the back on LSG's official social media account.

"KL Rahul (C) Nicholas Pooran (VC) This season feels special already," the post read.

Having qualified for the playoffs in the previous season, Lucknow Super Giants showcased their mettle but faced defeat against Mumbai Indians in the eliminators. As they gear up for their third IPL campaign, LSG would aim to rectify past shortcomings and make a statement in the tournament.

The appointment of Pooran as vice-captain injects fresh energy into the team, complementing the leadership of Rahul and bringing valuable insights from his experience in the international circuit. Pooran had earlier led the West Indies side in international cricket but gave up captaincy. He was also the captain of the MI Emirates in the ILT20 2024 season.
