IPL 2024: Predicting where each team will finish at the end of the league stage

It’s almost certain that these are going to be the final teams until and unless there are some more trading possibilities between the teams before the start of the season. One thing is sure though that IPL 2024 Points Table will be quite closely contested because all 10 teams have equally strong squads for the new season.

The auction happened in Dubai recently, where the franchises stacked up their teams with some exciting talents. Some teams managed to fill the holes they had in their team while others further strengthened their already strong team. IPL 2024 is going to produce some cracker of games with no guarantees about which teams might qualify.

Let’s look at the predicted team's positions on the points table after the end of the league stage of IPL 2024:

10. Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings were not able to do a good job on the auction table and have a decent squad. They do have some great bowling options in the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Nathan Ellis, Arshdeep Singh, Rahul Chahar and Sam Curran, but their batting department looks dull. Their skipper, Shikhar Dahawan is the lone Indian batter who can pose a threat to opposition bowlers.

Apart from a weak Indian core, Punjab Kings have a good number of all-rounders in their team but all their prominent all-rounders lack form currently whether it's Sam Curran or Liam Livingstone. They need to look into their team well and prepare accordingly.

9. Delhi Capitals

Similar to Punjab, Delhi Capitals seem to have a weak Indian core which turns out to be a huge factor in determining the overall strength of the team. They do have some explosive names like David Warner, Mitch Marsh and Harry Brook, but their current form can be debatable. The forms of their foreign players will dictate their fate this season.

Even in the bowling line-up, Anrich Nortje would be the spearhead of the attack who did not have too good a season last year while has been out of cricket for a while now. Even their other bowlers are not too experienced and are not in too great recent touch.

8. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore seems like a team with many holes. They certainly did not perform well on the auction table and trading Cameron Green from Mumbai Indians at such a huge price, might not be the best of their moves, especially keeping his current form in mind. They do have some good names in the foreign players list but the Indian core seems to be missing.

Apart from a few players here and there, it seems like a poor team overall. They would need to come together and punch above their weight if they want to qualify and put a name for the title.

7. Kolkata Knight Riders

A rather interesting team of the lot - Kolkata Knight Riders. They certainly garnered attention on the auction table by making history with Mitchell Starc at an unbelievable price and the whole team seems like a good mix.

Unlike other teams, they certainly have some strong Indian players who make up the core of the team. Rinku Singh, who alone won several matches for his team last season and earned the maiden call-up for the Indian team, would again be a treat to watch this year.

The current form of their key players like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer might be the key for them.

6. Lucknow Super Giants

Not many changes on the auction table, Lucknow Super Giants still seem like one strong team. They have made some internal changes though with their skipper KL Rahul shifting to the middle order instead of opening, so has been the talk around it. They have traded Devdutt Padikkal for the same and given him the opening slot.

They have some good Indian players and good foreign players as well, which makes them a good lot overall. They have prepared some good backups for the key players as well, so instead of a strong playing XI, they have a strong squad.

5. Gujarat Titans

Qualifying to the finals two times in a row after their admission to the tournament, Gujarat Titans have certainly been sensational ever since. They were in the news before the auctions as they traded off their title-winning skipper, Hardik Pandya to his former team Mumbai Indians. Then they announced Shubhman Gill as their skipper for this season.

They still have a very good and strong team with quality batters, bowlers and all-rounders with match-winners from all departments. However, since they would be trying out with the new skipper this season and Gill being young, it might be interesting to see where they finish up at the end.

4. Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan seems like a side who can turn the tables this year around with such a strong squad. Though they have a different set-up from other teams where other teams focus on all-rounders, they don’t have many all-rounders but the specialist roles by their players are being performed well. They have some really explosive batters and wicket-taking bowlers in their lot.

If the strength of the squad on paper could be converted on the field, they could be the side to look out for and disrupt the entire table.

3. Sunrisers Hyderabad

Hyderabad has an explosive team at their deposit with the likes of foreign match winners such as Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, Marco Jansen and Pat Cummins. They also have great Indian talents in Bhuvaneshwar, Washington, Natarajan, Mayank and Rahul Tripathi. They have a batting line-up that can chase down any total while setting up a huge one when batting first.

Hyderabad is one dangerous team this time around and the only concern they would be having is to manage the talent pool they have and to figure out which foreign players to pick for the playing XI.

2. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions of this esteemed trophy, once again have built a fantastic team. They have a smart team off the stage who strategise wise and pick talent wisely. They have got all their bases covered in brilliant Indian core, and explosive foreign talent and almost every player who finds a place in the playing XI is a match-winner on his own.

They might be an unstoppable team this season only if they can get their team together and play like “One Family”, which they claim to do, keeping aside all the recent controversies. It might also be interesting to see if Hardik will play this season and how he captains the side if he plays.

1. Chennai Super Kings

The defending champions of IPL 2024 - Chennai Super Kings, were already a brilliant team last year as they went on to become the joint most successful team, along with Mumbai Indians and seems like they are going to finish top of the table this time around as well. They released Ben Stokes and bought some really good firepower with that purse. Chennai does look like a team you would want to stay away from if you’re their opponent.

They have a great team and have filled up a few holes while adding to the already present strengths. They have got brilliant backups as well for those positions and it would be interesting to see what playing XI would MSD pick.
