IPL has some unique records which are hard to be broken by teams and individuals. For instance, it is very difficult to break RCB's record for highest team total. While it is still in a reachable range, Chris Gayle’s record of the highest individual score of 175 against PWI is highly difficult to be hunted down. Such records might not be broken in near future. However, there are some records that can be broken in the near future.
RR has been a good team in the IPL. In the inaugural season of the IPL, RR won the title under the captaincy of Shane Warne. In the IPL 2022, they qualified for the final for the 2nd time in their history. RCB, on the other hand, has been a franchise with an incredible fan base. They have a star player like Virat Kohli who has been playing in the league since the inaugural season for the same franchise.
In the IPL 2024, the fans are looking forward to watching both the teams. Some of the players in both teams are exciting to watch. Some of the players have been hyped up so much that the fans expect them to perform in the league.
Here are the top five records of RR that RCB might not be able to break in IPL 2024:
1. Treble of -title win, Purple cap and MVP
RR had a tremendous tournament in the inaugural edition of the IPL. The fact that they were not regarded as one of the favorites to win and yet ended up dominating the league showed what they were capable of. While RR have not won the IPL since then, 2008 was a terrific season for them. Many world class players were in form and the emerging players stepped up in the league.
In 2008, RR won the title. In addition to it, Sohail Tanvir became the bowler with most number of wickets in the league. The left-arm pacer claimed 22 wickets to win the maiden purple cap. Shane Watson was brilliant as a player for RR. With the bat, he scored 472 at a SR of over 150 and claimed 17 wickets. He was the first player to win the ‘Most valuable player’ of the tournament award. To date, RCB has not been able to achieve the treble and are unlikely to achieve it in 2024.
2. Home record
Rajasthan Royals have one of the best records for a home team in the history of the IPL. The North Indian franchise has played most of its home matches in Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur, where they have a stellar record. At one stage, it was nearly impossible to beat them at home. In 77 matches at the venue, RR have managed to claim 49 wins, the fourth most for a home side in the history despite not playing two seasons.
In contrast to it, RCB infamously have one of the worst records for a team at home. In 85 matches, RCB have just 40 wins and lost 39 matches at home including six matches that had no results. Even if RCB manage to win all their home games in the IPL 2024, they can still not overtake the record of RR. While the schedule for the knockouts is yet to arrive, it is unlikely for M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru to get more than one match to host in playoffs.
3. Fair play award
The Fair Play award has been in existence since the start of the IPL. However, RCB has never managed to win it even once. It is an award given to the team that claims the most points at the end of the season for their good conduct. It is more of a result of the teams who would be the most disciplined and well behaved in the league, which is considered as one of the most essential factors.
Rajasthan Royals have won the award in three instances. They won the award for the first time in 2012. The 2008 champions won the award in 2021 for the second time. In 2022, they shared the award with Gujarat Titans who had the same points as the former in the league. RCB is yet to win the award. Even if they win the Fair Play award in 2024, they would still be a long way to surpass Rajasthan Royals in the regard.

4. Most runs for Wicketkeeper-batter
Sanju Samson has played a lot for Rajasthan Royals. He made his IPL debut in 2012 under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid after shining in the Under19 World Cup 2012. Since then, Samson has been an incredible part of the Royals. He did not play with RR in 2016 and 2017, when he played for Delhi Capitals. Barring that, Samson has played for RR in all the other seasons.
In most of those matches, Samson was also the WK batter of the Royals. As someone who has been both batter and kept gloves for his side, the right-handed batter has the most runs for RR. Samson has more runs as a WK batter for RR than any RCB batter for their side as a WK batter. Among the current squad, Dinesh Kartik is the closest even who needs thousands of runs to get close to Samson. At this point, it looks to be a distant record.
5. Winning a trophy under an Australian based captain
RR won the IPL 2008 under the leadership of Shane Warne. While the late cricketer was known for his cricketing brain, it was not until he led RR to a title win that the world witnessed his leadership skills. The star cricketer led an inexperienced side to the title win. In fact, until MS Dhoni became the first Indian captain to win the IPL, Warne and Adam Gilchrist were the IPL winning captains.
RCB will play IPL 2024 under the leadership of Faf Du Plessis, who is a South African. If RCB win the title, it will be the first instance of a captain other than an Indian or an Australian to win the IPL. However, RCB cannot win the title under an Australian captain, which RR has achieved. It is likely that Du Plessis would lead RCB for the entire IPL, unless a scary injury occurs that could rule him out of the league.
