Right after winning the IPL title in 2023, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni underwent knee surgery, which can bother the legendary cricketer in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich tournament. Even though the star cricketer previously stated that his knee is fine and he can continue playing, due to lack of game time, it can resurface once again, especially when he’s keeping.
Speaking on the matter, former cricketer Robin Uthappa stated that batting is never an issue for MS Dhoni as CSK would even allow him to bat in a wheelchair. However, he added that Dhoni’s knees are getting worn out, which may bother him in the upcoming season, which is slated to begin on March 22.

“CSK would let him play even if he was on a wheelchair! Get off the wheelchair, bat, and then go back. But I don't think the batting is the issue for him, I don't think batting will ever be an issue for him,” Uthappa said while talking to JioCinema.
“I think it's the wicketkeeping. The knees are getting worn out and he loves keeping. So, because he won't be able to stand there and add value, he'll probably move on from the game than for any other reason,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dhoni has started practicing in the nets and he hasn’t complained about his knees so far. He was spotted smacking sixes against the pacers and following this, teammate Deepak Chahar stated that the Ranchi-born cricketer could play in the IPL for at least two more seasons.
On the other hand, Chennai will begin their 2024 IPL campaign on March 22 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M Chidambaram Stadium. Ahead of that, the team management needs to solve the opening problem, as New Zealand international Devon Conway has been ruled out of the first half of the tournament. The duo of Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad was sensational in the last tournament but now in his absence, youngster Rachin Ravindra is likely to get a shot in the playing XI.
